Senator Marshall’s History of Voting Against Health Care Protections for Kansas Families, Veterans, and Seniors
KANSAS | According to a recent report, Kansas leads the nation in rural hospitals at risk of closure. Out of approximately 100 rural Kansas hospitals analyzed, 69 are at risk of closure, with 28 considered to be at immediate risk.
While Senator Marshall has said Americans should be able to shop for health care “like Black Friday shopping”, many Kansans are still facing the reality of losing nearby rural care. This could mean longer drives, fewer services, and delayed access to emergency treatment, where some families cannot wait for the next town, which may be over an hour away.
While rural communities and our neighbors struggle to find ways to take care of their families, Marshall has voted and continues to vote against multiple measures tied to health care coverage and affordability, including protections to prevent Medicaid cuts that could lead to thousands of Kansans losing coverage, safeguards for veterans’ health care and PACT Act benefits, and proposals aimed at protecting Medicare and Medicaid funding. He also voted against protecting seniors’ health care, including nursing home care, and voted against an amendment to protect maternal and pediatric health care through Medicaid. Despite his OB/GYN credentials, he has not even supported protections for mothers or children.
