Kansans Still Waiting for Senator Marshall: 500 Days, Still No Public Town Hall
IN KANSAS | July 14 marked 500 days since Senator Marshall ran out of his Oakley, Kansas, town hall. Despite other claims, Senator Marshall has not held an open-to-the-public town hall event since.
In those 500 days, our team has made repeated efforts to meet with Senator Marshall and his staff. Most recently, we traveled to Wyandotte County and requested a meeting with his office well in advance. We never received a response indicating whether Senator Marshall was willing to meet with constituents. Neither our team nor the local constituents who joined us were able to meet with Senator Marshall or anyone from his staff.
In June, our team attempted to visit two of Senator Marshall's offices—one in Wichita and another in Overland Park. Yet again, both visits were met with locked doors and seemingly empty offices. People who work in the same buildings, including security personnel, told us they rarely, if ever, see Marshall's staff. At the Wichita office, a postal worker shared that while the office regularly receives mail, it is typically left without anyone available to accept it.
These experiences raise serious questions about Senator Marshall's claim of maintaining seven offices across Kansas. If those offices are intended to serve constituents, Kansans should reasonably expect them to be staffed, accessible, and responsive. Instead, many are left asking the same question: Where is Senator Marshall?
After more than 500 days without a public town hall, Kansans deserve more than locked doors and unanswered requests. Public service isn't about controlling the audience or avoiding difficult conversations. It's about showing up, listening to the people you represent, and being accountable to every constituent.
Kansans deserve to be heard. Kansans deserve a senator who is willing to meet with the people he was elected to serve.
