Senator Roger Marshall Spent Nearly $19,000 of Kansas Taxpayer Money Traveling to Florida
IN KANSAS | New reporting according to reporting by The Kansas City Star, is raising questions about Senator Roger Marshall’s use of taxpayer dollars after records show he took at least 14 official trips through the Sarasota, Florida, area between 2021 and 2024, costing Kansas taxpayers nearly $19,000.
While members of Congress regularly travel for official business, the repeated trips to an area where Marshall owned a personal million-dollar home in the Sarasota raises questions about whether Kansas taxpayers were footing the bill for travel that also brought the senator close to his private property.
These trips totaled $18,886 in taxpayer-funded expenses, including nearly $12,000 for airfare and transportation, more than $6,000 in per diem payments and $689 in additional expenses.
In one instance, Marshall’s office spent $318 on airfare from Washington, D.C., to Sarasota on December 18, 2021 — just five days after Marshall signed paperwork related to a boat lift installation at his Florida property. The taxpayer-funded trips to Florida reportedly ended in July 2024. Just months later, Marshall’s Florida property was reported to have sustained damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton and was subsequently listed for sale for $1.45 million in March 2026. Coincidentally the same month, we sent hand-written postcards from Kansans to his Florida address, which were delivered, refused, and returned to us.
Despite the cessation of taxpayer-funded trips to the vicinity of his Florida property, federal election filings indicate Marshall did host a three-day fundraising retreat at Sarasota’s St. Regis Longboat Key Resort in late February 2025. Election records show that two political action committees controlled by Marshall paid St. Regis a combined $1,804 for travel-related expenses in the two days after the 2025 retreat.
