Senator Roger Marshall’s Voting Hurting Kansas Families; Child Care, Education, Funding
IN KANSAS | Too many Kansas families are being squeezed from every direction. The cost of groceries, gas, and health care continues to rise. Kansas schools are spread thin. Housing costs remain out of reach for too many working families. And parents are being asked to do more with less just to keep their families afloat. At a time when Kansans need leaders who will fight to make life more affordable and protect the programs families rely on, Senator Roger Marshall’s voting record is not prioritizing us.
Senator Marshall has repeatedly voted against measures that would have provided greater support for Kansas children and families, including funding for school meals, special education, child care, and new housing.
While Marshall continued to push the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2025 and make it a priority, he voted against an amendment that would have increased federal funding for school meal programs. For Kansas families already struggling with rising grocery bills, access to reliable school meals can make a real difference. Kansas children need more than a glass of milk—they need access to nutritious meals, and families need a Senator who will fight to ensure these programs have the resources they need.
As the cost of living continues to rise, working parents are struggling to balance going to work, keeping a job, and providing for their families. When child care is too expensive or unavailable, parents are forced to make impossible choices between paying the bills and caring for their children. Yet Marshall voted against an amendment to increase federal funding for child care, which could have helped address the rising cost of care and provided much-needed support to working parents already struggling to make ends meet.
If funding was the issue, an amendment that would have redirected funding from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to the Child Care and Development Block Grant program. At a time when Kansas parents are struggling with the cost of child care, Marshall once again chose not to support redirecting funds toward a program that helps families afford care and voted against this amendment.
Hundreds of real Kansas families with deep community ties are being affected across the state and put at risk by Senator Marshall’s support for President Trump’s ICE priorities.
Housing costs are putting another squeeze on Kansas families. As more Kansans struggle to afford a place to live, Marshall voted against an amendment that would have helped address the nation's housing shortage by supporting the construction of 7 million new homes. While the amendment was national in scope, increasing the supply of homes could have helped ease housing pressures that families across Kansas are facing.
The cost of everyday essentials continues to climb. Health care costs are putting more families under financial strain. Rural hospitals are fighting to keep their doors open. Schools are trying to educate Kansas children with limited resources. And working parents are struggling to balance the rising costs of housing, child care, food, and transportation. Kansans need a senator who understands the pressures families are facing and will fight to lower costs, protect health care, strengthen our schools, and keep rural communities thriving.
